Volunteer with Green Grove!
Why Green Grove?
The Green Grove Gameday Recycling Program strives to educate tailgaters, students, faculty and staff about the importance of recycling in the Grove and Circle on game days. Each year, thousands of pounds of waste are produced from tailgating. Our goal is to educate student volunteers on the importance of recycling, and in turn to divert as much of that waste as possible away from the landfill so it can be recycled and reused. Volunteers are responsible for educating tailgaters and distributing recycling bags before home football games, two of which the university will be competing in the EPA’s Gameday Challenge, a nation-wide competition to reduce waste generated on football gamedays. Volunteers also sort recycling collected from home football games each week following the game.
Game day volunteering begins about 4 hours before home gamedays. Volunteers work 2 hours and will be done working about 30 minutes before the team goes down the Walk of Champions.
Sorting volunteering occurs on the Mondays and Tuesdays after all home games from 1-3 p.m. Volunteers may arrive or leave at anytime depending on their schedule.
Game day volunteers meet at the white recycling trailer.
Sorting volunteers work at the Oxford Recycling Center down South Lamar. Rides are available to the Recycling Center at 1 p.m. and back to campus at 3 p.m.
The Green Grove Gameday Recycling Program is supported by individual volunteers as well as local/campus organizations, businesses, and alumni. You can help either by volunteering on game days to educate tailgaters on how to recycle in the Grove, or by volunteering throughout the weeks following home games to sort the collected recyclables at the Oxford Recycling Center with the Green Grove team. If your campus organization would like to sponsor a game or sorting shift with volunteers, please contact email@example.com.

Want to do more?
Apply to be a Green Grove Team Leader – Green Grove Team Leaders help organize volunteers to participate in the Gameday Challenge, a national recycling challenge that measures diversion rates produced by colleges and universities across the country. Green Grove Leaders also lead groups of students through the Grove and Circle to pass out recycling bags and talk to tailgaters about the Gameday Challenge during two home football games, and help promote the challenge to students and tailgaters. Team Leaders will learn about recycling in Oxford and gain professional skills like hands-on project management, outreach and more. E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more or click here.
The Green Grove program would like to thank Coca-Cola for its support of the fall 2018 season. If your business would like to support gameday recycling at Ole Miss, e-mail email@example.com.
Thanks for a great 2017 season!
Thanks to over 200 student volunteers during the 2017 football season, we diverted over 2.78 tons of recyclables from the landfill! Thank you to all of our Green Grove volunteers – we would not be able to run our program without you!
